United Way of West Alabama’s 2025 Campaign: A New Chapter of Leadership and Community Support

United Way of West Alabama's 2025 West Alabama has long been known for its tight-knit community, rich history, and people who are dedicated to making a difference. One such person leading the charge is Josh Hayes, who has dedicated much of his life to giving back to the region that shaped him. Hayes, a long-time supporter of local philanthropic initiatives, is now at the helm of the United Way of West Alabama’s (UWWA) 2025 campaign, and he’s ready to make an even greater impact on the lives of the area’s most vulnerable residents.

As Hayes stated, “West Alabama is a wonderful place to call home. This community shaped me into who I am, and I am grateful for the opportunity to give back. United Way of West Alabama does critical work in lifting up our most vulnerable neighbors. I’m honored to lead this campaign and help ensure that our community continues to thrive.” His passion for justice and philanthropy makes him an outstanding leader for this initiative, and UWWA is confident that the 2025 campaign will be a success under his leadership.

A legacy of giving back

Josh Hayes’ commitment to improving his community goes far beyond his role with the United Way. He has served in a variety of other local organizations, including Tuscaloosa’s One Place, The University of Alabama’s Blackburn Institute, and the Good Samaritan Clinic. His support of these groups demonstrates his deep dedication to tackling pressing issues and helping those who need it most.

In addition, Hayes’ passion for service has been recognized in various ways. In 2020, he was named as a West Alabama Young Leader of the Year. This notable recognition acknowledged his tireless contributions to his community and the region, including his work with the Alabama State Bar’s pro bono legal clinics. Hayes is also an elected member of the State Bar’s Board of Bar Commissioners. He is a fellow of the Alabama Law Foundation, a distinction awarded to no more than 1% of members of the Alabama State Bar.

A focus on community needs

The 2025 United Way campaign aims to address needs within four main pillars:

  • Education
  • Health
  • Financial stability
  • Disaster recovery

UWWA’s leadership works to engage local businesses, individual donors, and community partners to provide the region and members of the community opportunities to continue to thrive. The 2025 campaign seeks to continue the critical work the organization has been doing for years.

“We are thrilled to have Josh Hayes at the helm of our 2025 campaign,” said UWWA President & CEO Jackie Wuska Wear. “His passion for justice, philanthropy, and service to West Alabama makes him an outstanding leader for this effort. With his guidance, we know we can make an even greater impact on the lives of those who need it most.”
