  Mass torts are civil actions that have many plaintiffs involved against one or several defendant corporations. If a toxic chemical is released and an entire neighborhood is impacted, each neighbor may have different injuries (one neighbor may have experienced skin rashes and another may have experienced respiratory problems). Since they weren’t injured in the same way, it is difficult to form one class for a class action suit. These types of situations are handled as mass tort actions.

  When someone is killed as a result of another person’s negligence or wrongdoing, his or her family is confronted with a devastating loss. Oftentimes, this loss is accompanied by financial stress, especially when the deceased was the key income provider. The Alabama Wrongful Death Statute is unique in that any money damages awarded are entirely punitive (designed to punish the wrongdoer), rather than compensatory. However, any recovery by the family (or other designated personal representative) can, of course, be used to compensate for lost income, lost future earnings and to offset expenses. Blake Williams

Blake specializes in injury cases involving 18-wheeler and car collisions. He also handles numerous slip-and-fall cases, as well as bad faith cases where insurance companies deny valid claims made by homeowners under their insurance policy. As a member of the Alabama Association for Justice Journal Committee, Blake enjoys writing articles for publication in the state-wide journal on interesting legal topics.

When not working, Blake enjoys spending time with his family. He and his wife, Kristine Burns Williams, have three young children that keep them busy. Blake and his family are members at The Church at the Oaks, which is located on the campus of the University of Alabama. Blake and Kristine enjoy serving and helping the college community.
