On February 7, 2023, PGH attorney Blake Williams filed a lawsuit in Tuscaloosa County on behalf of his client who was seriously injured in a car crash with an 18-wheeler. The accident occurred on US Highway 82 in the western part of Tuscaloosa County. As Blake’s client slowed for a school bus stop sign, the driver of the 18-wheeler (one of the defendants in the lawsuit) rear-ended her. In addition to the driver of the 18-wheeler, Blake also named as an additional defendant the driver’s employer who is the owner of the truck. Blake alleged the driver of the truck was not driving his truck in a reasonable manner and that his employer was liable for the actions of its driver. Blake’s client has requested a trial by jury.
Blake and the attorneys at PGH know a significant portion of 18-wheeler wrecks involve rear-end collisions. The reason these types of accidents are so dangerous is due to the fact large trucks can be up to 40 times heavier than your standard passenger vehicle. The weight alone is enough to cause serious injuries, but there are also other factors, such as stopping distance, that come into play. To come to a complete stop while traveling at 65 miles per hour, a large truck requires the distance of two football fields. The distance might be even longer if the road is wet, icy or flooded. PGH has the resources to engage accident reconstructionists and other experts who can review all the facts and other evidence and analyze that evidence to conclude which party was at fault. Blake will have these and other resources at his disposal as he prepares this case going forward.
