PGH attorney Blake Williams recently settled a personal injury case for a substantial confidential amount. The lawsuit was filed in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, on behalf of his client, a woman who was employed by an automotive logistics service company. In that capacity, she regularly drove and parked vehicles at an auto manufacturing plant. On September 16, 2020, she was run over and knocked to the ground by a vehicle driven by an employee of a different company. She suffered multiple tears in her shoulder, which required surgery. She also sustained significant facial trauma, with some of her bottom front teeth knocked out and some of her top front teeth pushed inward. These injuries required seventeen teeth to be pulled and, eventually, a fitting for dentures.
Blake filed suit on his client’s behalf claiming negligence and wantonness on the part of the driver who hit his client, as well as a claim that the driver’s employer should not have re-hired the employee and that the company did not properly train the employee. After filing suit, Blake engaged in extensive discovery, which led to the discovery of evidence to support 1) the fact that the driver was negligent, 2) the fact that the company should not have re-hired the driver, and 3) and that the company failed to properly train the employee. After discovery was complete, the parties engaged in formal settlement discussions, which is called mediation. After two mediation sessions, Blake was able to reach a satisfactory settlement for his client.
